Tiafoe v Auger-Aliassime
Big Foe claims to have had wrist surgery recently but, based on last night's win over Learner Tien, nobody is quite sure whether he is lying or not. I know I have said it a lot today, but here is yet another player who loves competing near home soil.
It has been a career year for Frances Tiafoe — he won his first-ever ATP 500 in Halle, where he beat Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinal, and on top of that he has looked in peak physical shape. Félix, meanwhile, is coming off a back injury that kept him out of Montreal in his own home nation. Back injuries are hard to manage, especially recent ones. Big Foe has had time to rehab the wrist on a documented program, so his return feels a little more secure, and in front of his home fans I think he gets a real boost.
